Why Bicarb ?
The loss of metabolic carbon dioxide by the bird due to hyperthermia at high temperatures leads to reduced blood bicarbonate concentration resulting in poor eggshell quality when the weather is very hot due to hyper venting by the birds to exhale excess heat form the body. The reduction in plasma carbon dioxide is due to panting of the bird which is associated with reduced availability of bicarbonate ion for eggshell formation. Supplementation of Bicarb increases the shell strength especially in the old Layers.
